Skype Wi-Fi is coming to iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches running the Skype WiFi app. However, the existing Skype iOS app won’t include this WiFi capability. Skype product manager Shadi Mahassel said in blog post.
It’s called “Skype Access”, this service will soon be a free app in the Apple Store, allowing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users to connect to over 1 million Wi-Fi hotspots around the world via their existing Skype accounts including those from the extensive Boingo service.
The benefits of accessing this service through Skype are it allows users to use their existing Skype account and credits. And it also allows people to use the Wi-Fi hotspot for short durations without paying for a full hour or a full day.
Customers only pay $0.06 per minute, and charged only for the amount of time they’re online, and not for the amount of information downloaded.
